What is IP Cities 2007?

IP Cities is an initiative co-organised by the City Council of Viladecans and the Diputació de Barcelona whose main aim is giving a boost to the debate on the new high-speed telecommunication infrastructures technologies based on fiber optic (FTTH–Fiber to the Home) technology networks in Catalonia and in the rest of the country.

IP Cities is a platform for the development of local collaborative projects implemented by European cities and a unique opportunity to introduce a much needed debate about telecommunication projects of innovation or neutral allowing the democratization of services, at the urban, local and metropolitan levels, in our country.

How does it work?

From the 22nd to the 23rd of November 2007, representatives of leading projects, which are part of the local strategies for boosting IP Cities or Smart Cities, from all over the world, are gathering at the CUBIC building in Viladecans

The IP Cities program is divided into two parts: on Thursday 22rd, the cities invited are presenting their projects. The issues that may arise from the presentations will be discussed in several round tables; on Friday 23th, we will benefit from the lessons learnt during the opening session and transfer the debate to the local level, with the aim of reaching points of convergence that contribute to the promotion of projects of this sort in our country, in the short to medium term.

What else do you need to know?

The pioneering projects presented at IP Cities are experiences of innovation that contribute to the definition of 21st century cities in which high speed optical technology will be an essential part of the business network and metropolitan development. This involves public, cooperative and private initiatives that meet an increasing demand for growth of companies, local administration and citizens. They all share the capacity of attracting economic impulses of new generation.
